Consultancy without the theatre
Webb AI exists because the gap between what AI can do and what small businesses are actually getting from it is enormous — and most of what's sold into that gap is either overpriced or oversold.
The short version
Webb AI is a UK consultancy run by Jack Webb, working with small and medium-sized businesses that want AI to solve a real problem rather than tick a box.
After 9 years working in software, the same pattern kept appearing: enormous enthusiasm about AI at the top of a business, no idea where to start in the middle of it, and quiet scepticism from the people who'd actually have to use the thing. Bridging those three is most of the job.
What we believe
Start with the work, not the tool
Nobody needs "an AI strategy". They need quotes out faster, fewer evenings spent on invoices, enquiries answered before a competitor gets there. We start from the job to be done and work backwards. Sometimes the answer turns out to be a better spreadsheet, and we'll say so.
Small, fast, provable
Long discovery phases mostly protect the consultant. We'd rather have something working in a few weeks that you can judge honestly. If a pilot doesn't earn its keep, you've lost weeks, not a year's budget.
Your team has to want it
The fastest way to waste money on AI is to buy it for people who weren't asked. We involve the people doing the work from the first week, and we're straight with them about what changes. Adoption is not a training problem, it's a trust problem.
No lock-in
You own the accounts, the data, the configuration and the documentation. We write things down so that you can run them without us. Repeat work should be because you want more, not because you can't leave.
Honest about limits
AI models are confident even when they're wrong, they cost money per use, and they change under you. We design around that — approval steps where mistakes matter, cost monitoring from day one, and a plain answer when something isn't ready yet.
Who we work with
Typically UK businesses with roughly 5 to 250 staff, in professional services, trades and construction, e-commerce, manufacturing, property and recruitment. Common thread: a lot of paperwork, a busy inbox, and a team that's already at capacity.
We're a good fit if you want a straight answer and a working result. We're a poor fit if you're after a large strategy deck, or if the goal is a press release.
How we charge
Fixed prices, agreed before work starts. Audits and pilots are one-off fees; ongoing support is a rolling monthly arrangement you can stop at any time. Third-party software licences are yours directly, at cost, in your own accounts — we don't mark them up or resell them.
How an engagement usually goes
-
Week 0
Free call
Thirty minutes. You describe the problem; we say whether AI is the right tool and roughly what it would take.
-
Weeks 1–2
Audit
We map the work, talk to your team and come back with a ranked, costed list of opportunities.
-
Weeks 3–6
Pilot
We build the best one, put it in front of real users and measure it against the numbers we agreed.
-
Ongoing
Scale or stop
Roll it out and train the team, or stop and try something else. Either is a legitimate outcome.
